The madness of inanity

It was a day of getting ready. An evening spent driving to Perth, hanging around the airport, and then flying to Melbourne. It was catching a taxi into the city to enjoy a breakfast, fresh, early morning air and a good walk. Finding the mundane necessities for a shower in the fearful, security obsessed climate of an airport became a treasure hunt of sublime ridiculousness. As always, anything is possible with the liberal application of wheedling, flattery and an outrageous amount of cold hard cash*. Another flight, we are then herded off the plane, into the airport, and ten minutes later, back onto the same plane. At least I got to see the famous Sydney Opera house and bridge. A 14 hour flight, too tired to sleep, too sleepy to think, too restless to relax. US customs was much quicker this time and we are away, to pick up a rental car, to our hotel and to the blissful oblivion of exhaustion.

*I'm making fun of it now, but making it really difficult and expensive for people to take a shower? This is not something to be proud of.
